The swim, 3.8km doesn’t sound too bad but if you want to put this into perspective, the next time you’re parking your car in the Quay’s car park in Youghal, see can you spot Youghal Bridge in the distance. It’s just under 3.8 km’s from the car park. The 180 km’s bike route, how hard can it be? Well firstly there’s Windmill hill, which has to be climbed twice, once after cycling 90 km’s and again at 180 km’s. Okay, back to the distance 180 km’s, that’s like getting off the ferry in Rosslare and cycling to Cobh cross. Finally the run section, 42 km’s. Now that you’ve cycled to Cobh cross from Rosslare, lock your bike to a pole and run back to Youghal. Now you’re an Ironman and as you run through the Ironman finishing chute you’ll hear the words “Billy Carr, you are an Ironman”.
